Io è un altro

The group exhibition Io è un altro (I Is Another), curated by Cecilia Severini, brings together the practices of Giulia Apice, Nico Crisanti, Giuseppe Gallace and Arianna Pessina, offering a reflection on contemporary identity as an unstable, plural, and constantly evolving condition. Inspired by Arthur Rimbaud’s famous verse, the project explores the relationship between the individual, memory, the body, and otherness through four painterly practices united by a shared sense of ambiguity and suspension.

Although working from different visual languages, the artists share an investigation into the human figure as a site of fragility, relationship, and transformation. Giulia Apice creates evanescent bodies on bed sheets, where the mark dissolves to evoke elusive and vulnerable identities. Giuseppe Gallace constructs suspended images in which silent figures coexist with lush vegetation, conveying a constant tension between harmony and unease. Arianna Pessina uses charcoal to depict apparitions immersed in shadow, reflecting on memory, loss, and the ever-changing nature of remembrance. Nico Crisanti, meanwhile, portrays bodies that intertwine and deform one another, emphasizing how every identity is shaped through contact with others.

The exhibition thus offers a portrait of contemporary sensibility, in which the body becomes a mirror of both individual and collective transformations. Identity emerges as a reality that is never fixed, but continuously redefined by memory, time, space, and relationships, presenting the image of a subject that is inevitably open to the other.
