Mosca cieca

Candy Snake Gallery presents Mosca cieca (Blind Man’s Buff), the first solo exhibition by Livia Chiffi, curated by Tiziano Tancredi. The project brings together textile works and sculptures born from the interweaving of personal memory, storytelling, and theatrical staging. Through reclaimed fabrics sourced from production leftovers, markets, and discontinued textile shops, Chiffi develops a practice akin to archaeological excavation: a slow search for materials, images, and memories that take shape through sewing.

At the heart of the exhibition is the theme of staging. The series of textile theatres evokes curtains, wings, and small stages where autobiographical episodes, family relationships, and fragments of everyday life are transformed into narratives suspended between reality and imagination. Zoomorphic figures, vegetal elements, and symbolic presences create a dialogue between the public and the private, individual experience and collective memory, making fabric into a narrative material capable of preserving traces of relationships and transformation.

Alongside these works, the sculptures further explore the theme of personal change. In particular, Le stesse cose ritornano – muta (The Same Things Return – Shedding) interprets transformation as the shedding of skin: a process that does not erase the past but reshapes the way it is perceived. The exhibition title, Mosca cieca (Blind Man’s Buff), refers to the children's game and is used as a metaphor for the human experience: moving forward by trial and error, relying on intuition, and recognizing what returns in different forms, in a continuous oscillation between what remains hidden and what is suddenly revealed.
