Fondazione Prada presents Over, Under and In Between, a site-specific project by Mona Hatoum at its Milan venue. The exhibition is composed of three installations that engage with the architecture of the Cisterna, formerly storage tanks of the former distillery, exploring instability, danger, and fragility.
The first room features a suspended web made of transparent glass spheres connected by threads, symbolizing both connection and vulnerability. According to Hatoum, the web evokes simultaneously threat and protection, while also referencing the poetic and cosmic dimension of the interconnectedness of all things.
The second installation consists of over thirty thousand red glass spheres forming a world map without political borders, based on the Gall-Peters projection. The unstable arrangement of the spheres suggests an open territory influenced by external forces and invites reflection on the political power inherent in geographic representation.
In the third room, All of a Quiver, a large modular metal grid oscillates between collapse and reconstruction, producing creaking and clinking sounds. The cyclical movement symbolizes precariousness and the suspension between construction and destruction, resilience and fragility, offering visitors a physical and reflective experience.
The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog with texts by Theo Deutinger, Lina Ghotmeh, and Jamieson Webster, which delve into Hatoum’s poetics from psychological, geographical, and architectural perspectives.
