Senza te chi sono io

Senza te chi sono io (Without You, Who Am I) is Federico Crespi’s first solo exhibition and brings together a selection of works created over recent years, offering an insight into his painterly practice centered on themes of identity, memory, and childhood. Through the construction of an alter ego, the artist reworks personal experiences, memories, and references drawn from art history, transforming them into images suspended between reality and imagination.

The paintings are characterized by an intimate and contemplative atmosphere, inhabited by small anthropomorphic figures that seem to move through silent, timeless spaces. Domestic interiors and undefined settings become the stage for a complex emotional narrative in which comfort and unease constantly coexist. The enigmatic smiles and gazes of the depicted creatures never convey a single, fixed meaning; instead, they suggest subtle tensions, fragility, and ambivalent emotional states.

At the heart of the exhibition lies a reflection on the construction of the self and the relationship with others. The figures often appear isolated, immersed in a condition of waiting, vulnerability, and search, as though suspended in an intermediate dimension between memory and desire. The title itself becomes an open question about identity and the possibility of defining oneself through relationships. Through a delicate yet symbolically rich painting practice, Crespi creates a poetic universe in which familiar elements are transformed into enigmatic presences, capable of evoking profound emotions and questioning the boundary between lived experience and imagination.
